Beach description
During quiet hours, the Dwejra Bay lagoon, surrounded by high rock formations, is quite suitable for diving and snorkeling. Its bottom is generously dotted with pebbles and stones, and the depth gradually increases as we approach the channel leading to the open sea. When sailing in the lagoon, where whirlpools often form, you need to stay away from the pier and entrance of the cave due to the stream of boats.
Dweira Bay Beach is very clean: local authorities keep order and do not allow barbecue on the beach. The infrastructure of the recreation area is represented by parking, several restaurants, beach equipment rental services and toilets.
Of the local attractions, it is worth noting the Mushroom rock, declared a natural reserve, and a 17th-century watchtower.
When is it better to go
The swimming season in Malta lasts from late May to October. The air temperature reaches comfortable +25-30°C, and the water temperature does not fall below +23°C. In some regions of the Maltese archipelago, the water warms up to +26-28°C. In summer, dry, sunny and calm weather prevails. Precipitation is rare. The southern coast of Malta is often influenced by the dry desert winds of Africa, raising high waves and bringing the sultry breath of the Sahara to the islands.
