Radio beach

This peaceful beach is one of the most visited, but not as many other popular beaches on the island. It is only a few feet from the coral reefs and cliffs, therefore it is able to give an incredible diving experience. It is believed that it owes its name to the radio masts, which literally dotted its outskirts.

Beach description

It is situated on the island of Bimini, which is the closest to the United States of America of the total number of Bahamian islands. It's only 50 miles from the Miami coast and only a few minutes by seaplane from Fort Lauderdale. Territorially it belongs to the city of Alice Town, from which you can reach it by the King's Highway.

This is an idyllic beach with white sand and a vast area, which sometimes seems even deserted. Nevertheless, there are always tourists here, despite the fact that it's not a “hot spot” of the Bahamas. The water on the shore is calm and there are almost no waves – thanks to the coral reef, which protects the beach from the ocean currents. Depth in the nearshore areas is moderate. If a grown person wants to swim comfortably, he or she will have to go a little deeper. There are no underwater rocks or debris at the bottom – this is an absolutely safe area to swim in.

The highlight of the beach is local fishermen. Seafood is delivered by full nets right to the shore while tourists enjoy Caribbean exotic. It's a home to blue marlin, barracuda, tuna, wahoo, sailfish, garfish. You can also go fishing or buy shellfish that have just been caught and cook them at dinner. Near the beach you can buy ready-made seafood, which you can bring to the beach and have a picnic.

When is the best time to go?

Holidays in the Bahamas are good at any time of the year, but the busy season is in the period from mid-November to May. The Bahamas are disposed quite low in relation to sea level, so the wind blows in the winter months, but it is gentle and soberly pleasant. The air temperature is between 27-29 degrees from the end of autumn to the beginning of summer. Traveling with children, it is better to come in the autumn months, while the spring is more appropriate to go for new emotions, and peacefully enjoy the sunshine – in winter.
