Cyril Riso

Hey there! I’m Cyril Rišo, 29, a writer and journalist living in Bratislava, Slovakia’s little gem of a capital. My road to writing wasn’t a straight line—it zigzagged, stumbled, and occasionally felt like riding a plane through turbulence. But that’s what shaped me, and honestly, I wouldn’t trade it.
Early Career
I kicked things off in aviation. Yep, airplanes, airports, the whole deal. I spent a few years there sharpening skills I didn’t even know I needed at the time:
- Learning how to actually talk to people so they’d listen
- Getting a global perspective (nothing like watching a departure board flip endlessly to remind you how big the world is)
- Figuring out how to stay cool when everything around you is moving at 300 km/h, metaphorically and sometimes literally
After that? I dove into tourism, joining CK Fischer, one of the heavyweights in the travel scene. That job cracked my world wide open—it wasn’t just about trips and hotels, it was about people, cultures, the tiny quirks that make each place unforgettable. And it fueled something I’d felt for years: the itch to tell stories.
Discovering My True Calling
But here’s the thing. Even while I loved the travel business, writing never stopped knocking on the door. Loudly. Eventually, I gave in. I jumped into journalism full-time, and honestly, it felt like stepping into the right pair of shoes after walking barefoot too long. Now I get to write for different magazines and online platforms, diving into topics like:
- Travel and tourism, obviously—it’s my heartbeat
- Culture and lifestyle (aka the fun stuff that makes everyday life richer)
- Technology and innovation, because the future is already here, and it’s wild
- And current events, the raw material of tomorrow’s stories
Looking Ahead
So what’s next? Who knows. That’s the thrill. I’m chasing new creative projects, eager to connect with readers from Tokyo to Toronto. I honestly believe good journalism does more than just inform—it sparks curiosity, builds bridges, sometimes even heals. If you’ve made it this far, thanks for hanging out with me here. Dive into my stories, drop me a line if you want to collaborate, or just chat about writing over coffee. I’ll be around. And if my words give you even a fraction of the joy I get from writing them—well, that’s mission accomplished.
