1. Admire the views

The village of Punta Mita is surrounded on three sides by sparkling waters and beautiful beaches. If you want to see celebrities, head to the eastern peninsula as this is where several celebrities own beach properties. Naturally, their apartments offer stunning views of Banderas Bay.

If you want a table with a view, head to the Tuna Blanca restaurant in Punta Mita. This is the number one restaurant in Punta Mita. Tuna Blanca Restaurant serves a variety of Mexican cuisine and seafood. You can follow the humpback whale while you refuel in a delicious meal.

2. Hang out on the beach

The beaches in Punta Mita are exceptional. This coast is rarely disturbed by hurricanes, so the beaches remain untouched all year round. The village of Punta is located on Banderas beach. It is a paradise for sun worshipers and water sports enthusiasts.

Bouquerias Beach is a 30-minute drive from Punta Mita. This five-mile stretch of stunning sand is located along Banderas Bay and is popular with local families. There are plenty of shells to collect, water sports to try and if you want to try windsurfing the conditions are perfect.

Hidden Beach is also known as Love Beach, making it a great honeymoon destination. The beach, located inside a large crater, can only be reached by boat, but is well worth a visit.

La Lancha Beach can only be reached by boat, but is ideal for surfing. The waves here are always ferocious enough to test your skills on the board.

3. Go scuba diving

Punta Mita has excellent snorkeling opportunities. The air and water temperature is ideal for snorkeling all year round. Travel to the Marieta Islands by boat and explore the caves and tunnels. Coral reefs are home to numerous marine life including dolphins, sharks and rays.

El Morro is great for experienced divers. You dive to depths of up to 150 feet, wall dive and explore complex caverns and tunnels.

4. Go fishing

Punta Mita is a great place for fishing lovers. The warm waters off the coast are teeming with marine life and there is no shortage of fish to catch. If you're fishing on the shore, look out for perch, bass, and mahi-mahi. Book a fishing charter if you want to try deep sea fishing. The big game season runs from June to January, but the best catches are usually in September and October. This is your opportunity to catch a marlin or sailfish. If you're lucky, you can take your catch home and grill it for a real ocean to the table.

It would be a shame to visit Punta Mita and ignore the local culture. The Huichol Indians made Punta Mita their home thousands of years ago. They called this place the gate to heaven, and it's not hard to see why. Several thousand Huichol Indians still live in Punta Mita. Learn more about their culture, learn about their history and buy some of their art. Many local shops sell authentic fair trade goods made by the local Huichol Indians.
