Beach description
The beach got its name for a reason: this enchanting spot is a favorite vacation destination for couples in love and newlyweds. Embarking on the journey to the mysterious Playa del Amor is an adventure in itself. To reach this secluded beach, one must travel by boat from Puerto Vallarta to the northwest, towards the mouth of Banderas Bay, approximately an hour's journey. The beach is nestled at the base of Marieta Island. As you approach, the entrance to the sandy cave is a clear indicator that Love Beach is near. Swim through the cave's archipelago for another 150 meters, and you will find yourself at the captivating Love Beach.
Boasting amazing snow-white sands and the quiet turquoise embrace of ocean breezes, Love Beach is cradled within a deep cave that looms overhead. The cave, resembling a vast crater in the cliff, is shrouded in mystery and inscrutability. It also serves as a natural parasol, casting a protective shade over part of the beach.
In 2005, Love Beach was honored with the designation of National Park, known as Parque Nacional Islas Marietas. This decision was driven by necessity, as the beach, during certain periods, could see upwards of 3,000 tourists per day. Such an influx posed a threat to the preservation of this exquisite locale, prompting authorities to regulate access to Love Beach by bestowing the title and implementing visitation restrictions. Now, no more than 120 visitors are permitted to enter the beach each day. In 2008, Love Beach was further recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, cementing its status as a natural treasure.
When is the best time to go?
The best time to visit Mexico for a beach vacation largely depends on the traveler's preferences for weather, crowd levels, and regional festivities. However, a generally ideal period is between December and April, when the weather is warm and relatively dry.
- December to February: These months are peak tourist season due to the pleasant climate. Expect higher prices and more crowded beaches.
- March and April: Spring break can see an influx of visitors, particularly in popular spots like Cancun. However, the weather remains favorable for beach activities.
- May to November: While this is the low season due to hotter temperatures and the rainy season (June to October), there are fewer tourists and lower prices. If you don't mind the occasional rain shower, this can be a great time to visit.
Ultimately, the best time for a beach vacation in Mexico is when the weather aligns with your comfort and the experience you're looking for, whether that's a lively atmosphere or a more tranquil getaway.

Since the territory of Love Beach is a biosphere reserve, kayaking and scuba diving near reefs are allowed on its territory, and any kind of hunting and fishing is prohibited, if you violate this prohibition, you will have to pay a considerable fine. Some Mexican sources joked about this and wrote, that it is only possible to fall in love on Love Beach.
