Papacolea - Hawaiian emerald

The Hawaiian Islands are the heaven sung by Elvis Presley in the vast expanses of the Pacific Ocean. Sea, sunbathing, cocktails and umbrellas - Hawaii has always been the best place to relax. And here is one of the most fabulous beaches of the entire globe - Papakolea.

At the southernmost point of the United States is a green beach, the length of which barely reaches 50 meters. But the small area did not become a hindrance for tourists. The main reason for its popularity is the green color of the sand, reminiscent of fresh grass warmed by the sun.

There is no human fault in the fact that the sand has changed color: these are not chemicals and not a sunken barge with brilliant green. The reason lies in the volcanoes, of which there are a lot on the Hawaiian Islands. The fact is that as a result of volcanic activity, layers rich in olivine, a mineral of yellow and green colors, began to rise to the surface. Its other name is the Hawaiian diamond, so vacationers are literally surrounded by precious stones.

Papacolea is located in a ring-shaped bay, which has a history of about 50,000 years. Olivine has a complex structure, so in the process of erosion, it remains on the shore, and the rest of the rocks are washed out. The mineral is formed by combining various chemical elements: magnesium, oxygen, iron, silicon - so its color can range from dark brown to yellow. However, the most common shade is olive.

The color of the beach is uneven: green crystals are mixed with black or white sand, so some areas are lighter, while others are completely emerald. Olivine has one feature: it decomposes in water. In this regard, scientists predict the Green Beach no more than 150 years.

Tourists always want to take something as a souvenir, but it is strictly forbidden to take green sand away. Hawaiians say that you can only take your memories with you. And only traces are allowed to be left: it is strictly forbidden to throw garbage into the sea or on the sand.

The best time to visit Papacolea is in the first half of the day, when most of the tourists will still be sleeping in their rooms. In the early morning you can take many beautiful photos and enjoy the beautiful view: pink sky, emerald coast and turquoise ocean. Near the beach you can stock up on exotic fruits: coconuts, bananas, mangoes.

Papacolea offers a relaxing holiday. Not everyone can swim in the ocean, because the strong surf makes this activity life-threatening. But the vanishing emerald beach is the perfect place for those who want to lose themselves in an atmosphere of exotic silence and enjoy the picturesque views of the Hawaiian Islands.
