Malindi and Watamu
The small town of Malindi sits in the middle of a strip of idyllic tropical beaches offering guests a wide range of world-class resorts and peaceful retreats from the hustle and bustle of the city. Further south is the quiet and cozy village of Watamu, surrounded by wide white beaches. This secluded spot has become home to several well-stocked resorts and numerous private boarding houses dotted through the rainforest along the deserted coastline.
Watamu National Marine Park was created to provide an ideal vacation for divers and snorkellers.
To the northwest of Malindi lies the spectacular Maratha wasteland, known locally as Nyari and also nicknamed Hell's Kitchen. Consisting of a whole series of ravines and gorges with steep slopes, this unique and slightly otherworldly landscape has become an integral part of local folklore since ancient times.
The impenetrable rainforests of Arabuko Sokoke Forest hide an amazing world full of wonders. Making your way along narrow paths through the cool forest, you can meet rare species of birds that are not found anywhere else, as well as meet a herd of elephants. The jungle near Malindi hides another secret - the lost ruins of the city of Gedi, once a bustling Swahili trading center, and now surrounded by dense thickets. The dilapidated walls of the ancient settlement tell an ancient and mysterious story.
Walking through the forest, exploring the mangroves by boat, diving into the clear water at the reef or big fishing - all this can be tried in the vicinity of Malindi. The Kenyan coast and coastal jungle offer almost inexhaustible opportunities for the traveler to have an unforgettable vacation, give the chance to experience a sense of true freedom, spaciousness and truly enjoy solitude and tranquility.
Mombasa is considered the gateway to the north coast, dividing the coast of Kenya into south and north, but some travelers prefer to fly directly to Malindi.
You can get to Malindi and Watamu National Park by highway, renting a car, taking a taxi or buying a ticket for a regular bus. Taxis are easy to find in any hotel or on city streets. Upon arrival at one of the airports in Kenya, accepting both regular and charter flights, you can order a transfer to the hotel.
