Mauritius — a volcanic island in the Indian Ocean

The small volcanic island of Mauritius affectionately attracts tourists with clear waters of lagoons, greenery of virgin forests, rapid waterfalls and volcanic mountain ranges. Barrier reefs protect sandy bays and quiet lagoons from the waves of the open ocean.

Friendly and hospitable resort hotels are located on the snow-white silky beaches. The best attraction of the island is the famous Botanical Garden. The first governor of the island, Mahe de la Bourdonnais, initiated the creation of this beautiful garden. 

Today's tourists have the opportunity to enjoy the amazing beauty of the collection of rare exotic plants. Just once every ten years you can see how the talipo palm blossoms. Its leaves reach three and a half meters in diameter. 

The garden is decorated with palm trees: blue, red, yellow, brought from Rodrigues, bent into three deaths. The huge trunk of the bottle palm, in fact, is shaped like a bottle. And the leaves of Madagascar travelers can hold drinking water for a long time. 

Baobab from Central America reached a circumference of thirty meters in 350 years. Giant bright green leaves, having a diameter of two meters, will remind you of a cozy cradle in the shape of a cup with sides.

Nature has endowed Mauritius with a wonderful climate, so plants brought from other continents feel here no worse than at home. Six and a half hectares of green forests along the west coast is occupied by the Black River Gorge National Park

There is the highest point of the island. The preserved local flora and fauna attracts travelers from all over the world. In some areas of the reserve, virgin tropical forest has been preserved to this day. Many unique birds live here, such as the pink dove, parakeet, kestrel, red-finned nightingale. 

In the Black River Goj reserve, the rarest fauna has been preserved: necklace parrots, pink pigeons, local kestrel. Among the variety of birds here you will see: a rare cardinal bird, a phaeton bird, etc.

A huge number of all kinds of mollusks and fish live in coastal waters. Shopping lovers can indulge themselves with the purchase of unusual clothes, silk carpets, jewelry and a variety of souvenirs. 

The botanical garden with the unique “Lake of Lilies”, the Mont Plaisir Castle, the Church of St. Francis, models of historical ships and other attractions will please any tourist.
