Bahamas: Tiamo Hotel
In 1392, in order to find a short way to India, Christopher Columbus discovered an amazing archipelago, the treasure of which are beautiful beaches, comfortable coves, calm turquoise waters. The indigenous population of the islands was the Arauac Indian tribe. In the 17th century, the archipelago began to attract pirates, Spaniards and the British. The power of the latter lasted 300 years in the archipelago. Now this archipelago is visited by more than 5 million tourists a year.
To a greater extent, they are all residents of America and Europe. Now these islands can be compared, perhaps, with paradise. Because the word "paradise" applies to everything here: like paradise, the archipelago is "lost" in the Caribbean Sea, far from the mainland of the Earth.
One of the islands of the archipelago where tourists come is Andros Island - the largest island of the archipelago, full of secrets and natural resources. Adventurous divers can dive into the 1800 m depression. In this paradise on land and at sea is Tiamo: the first completely eco-friendly hotel in the Caribbean, which can only be reached by water.
The doors of Tiamo, consisting of 11 bungalows, in a pristine rainforest, are always open. Tanning products, fishing rods, a mask and fins are the only irreplaceable equipment on Andros. The bungalows are built in a traditional Caribbean style a few steps from the beach. The construction of the bungalow was carried out in such a way as not to damage nature, so from above it seems that the bungalows are soldered into the vegetation. The motives of the hotel staff are to try to keep this place the way it was before the hotel itself appeared on the island. This is also the basis for the construction method with minimization of intrusion into nature.
The interior of the premises is designed to create a sense of life in nature. Only 8 thousand people live in this 200 km long nature reserve. Since 1959, nature conservation has been taken very seriously in the Bahamas. Fishing regulations are strict, and ocean liners are prohibited from entering the inner waters of the archipelago to protect the coral barrier - the third longest in the world. Everything in the hotel is created in such a way as to "cut off" vacationers from the real world as much as possible: there is no television, Internet…
The guests are just taking a break from everyday life. Andros is a land of blue depressions, underwater grottoes, which are associated with superstitions and myths about the existence of mermaids. These grottoes, whose depth reaches 100 m, were explored by the team of Jacques Cousteau in the 70s of the last century. Some islands have become known to the world thanks to divers who want to swim with sharks, others have gained similar fame due to dolphins.
