Kollam beach
Kollam is a large sandy beach where Marco Polo supposedly landed in the 13th century. Located 4 km from the city of the same name on the southern coast of Kerala. Getting to the beach is better with a rickshaw or a rented car.

Kollam is located in a picturesque place, among palm groves and green lawns, but the territory is groomed, a lot of garbage. Descent into the sea is uneven and steep. A few steps from the coast quite deep. The bottom is sandy and stony. It is better to enter the water in special shoes so as not to step on sharp stones and debris. High waves, whirlpools, strong undercurrents are characteristic. Children should not be taken to the beach.
The beach is quite crowded, but there are few tourists. The locals prevail. There are several restaurants and cafes.
The main attractions of Kollam:
- a huge snow-white statue of a mermaid,
- a magnificent park with children's attractions,
- Thevali palace,
- a lighthouse in Thangasseri.
In the vicinity of the city there are lakes Ashtamudi and Sasthamkotta and the Shenuruni conservation area.
