Catalans beach

Beach with a convenient location, which is close to the centre of Marseille. From here you can walk to it with a fresh coffee croissant at the bakery along the way to start your day with breakfast on the Côte d'Azur. To be honest, this is not the cleanest and far from the most beautiful beach in Marseille, but it is the closest section for those who want to swim without leaving the city or using transport.

Descripció de la platja

This is a cosy little beach near the city centre with fine sand and shallow sea. It's close to the old port. Swimming here is very pleasant - no need for special shoes, as there are no rocks and sharp cliffs underwater. As such, there are no waves, rather this light natural excitement of the sea surface - no more. A light breeze adds freshness and romance to this place, especially in the evenings.

On this beach there is a very beautiful place on the stones with a comfortable anatomic shape, on which you can comfortably lie even without loungers and take beautiful pictures. Boulders are also found in the sand, but they do not impede movement, but look quite natural and harmonious.

Beach is crowded - after 6 pm a lot of locals come here, so you can't push through the water. However, those who rest with children are not afraid, because, firstly, it is very convenient to enter the water, and secondly, it is convenient to get to the beach.

When is the best time to go?

Infrastructure

It can be reached on foot in 15 minutes from the centre of Marseille, or by bus 81. You can also rent a bike and ride it. As for the car, it's a little more complicated: parking at the beach is only paid, and there are no free spots at a short distance from the beach. If you are looking for a hotel near the beach with high-quality service and a convenient location, New Hotel Vieux Port is the right place to be. Nearby is not only the Catalan beach but also world-famous boutiques, restaurants and other benefits of civilization.

Like all the beaches in Marseille, the Catalans are too popular to be wild. So it has everything you need on it:

  • changing rooms;
  • shower and toilet,
  • a small storage room.

There is a small café where you can eat traditional French snacks and refresh yourself with soft and alcoholic drinks. If you want to taste more gourmet cuisine, you have to leave the beach and move towards the promenade or the city centre.

Volleyball nets are stretched on its territory - several teams can fight in a competition. By the way, international football competitions are also held here. In the summer season, there are lifeguards on duty on the shore. You can hire a boat to explore the shore, or you can set out to conquer the deep sea by renting diving equipment.
