Once upon a time, the first farm was established in this region. During World War II, it served as a base for the British army. Today, in nearby Stokksnes, a NATO radar station is operational. On the shore, wind and water tirelessly sculpt lava dunes. Nearer to the sea, the moist sand creates an illusion that makes travelers feel as though they are walking on water. Occasionally, lazy seals emerge onto the untouched coast, basking in the tranquility.
Since the route to Vestrahorn is relatively easy and smooth, the beach is accessible not only during summer but also in winter, offering equally stunning landscapes in the colder months.

From Reykjavik to Westrahorn is about 500 km. You can overcome them by plane or bus. Hofn receives flights from the capital.
