Almejal beach

Almejal beach is not a crowded beach on the Pacific Ocean. Black sand makes this place one of Colombia's most beautiful beaches. High waves and warm water create ideal conditions for surfing. You can also swim on the beach, but you need to do this carefully because of not only high but also strong waves. The bottom is rocky in some parts of the beach.

Beach description

Almejal beach is characterized by strong tides that occur every 6-8 hours constantly changing the landscape of the beach. The water leaves the coast for 100 meters or more. Roughnesses of the ocean floor create natural mirrors from sea water, in which the sky is reflected. The beach is especially beautiful during low tide at night in clear weather, when the stars are reflected on the mirror black sand. Because of this, the beach received the status of not only the most beautiful beach in Colombia but also the most romantic.

Vacationers can watch whales and dolphins in the coastal zone in the period from July to December. And the lack of people allows sea turtles to lay eggs right in the sand on the beach.

When is it better to go?

The best time to visit Colombia is from December to April, when the weather is relatively warm and the rains are replaced by the dry season.  It should be borne in mind that the coast is always hotter than in the highlands, for example, in the capital Bogota.
