Remire-Montjoly beach

Remire-Montjoly is one of the most picturesque beaches of French Guiana, located in a village of the same name, just 10 km southeast of the capital. The long sandy coast is very popular among locals and tourists and due to specific wind conditions it's very attractive for kitesurfers. But there are no conditions for comfortable stay here, so not everyone will like the place.

Beach description

The coast of Remire-Montjoly is long but quite narrow, surrounded by an emerald chain of palms and other tropical vegetation. The shore is covered with very clean sand of golden hue. Despite the fact that it's a very popular beach, it's almost never crowded due to the underdeveloped tourism industry and complete lack of infrastructure. In June you can see turtles on the shore.

The beach is popular as a place for relaxing on the beach, but not for swimming, as the local waters are very silty. But because of the frequent winds and large waves, the coast of Remire-Montjoly attracts fans of wind and wave water sports and is in demand among kiters. To diversify the beach leisure you can visit the ancient sugar factory and ruins of the ancient fortress Diamant. You can also take a hike to Mahury Mountain from here.

When is the best time to go?

Guiana is located next to the Amazonian forests, where it rains in January and February. They return from mid-April to July. So the best time to visit this overseas department of France is all the other months.
