Beach description
Tanjung Bira is a 2 km long beach located in the southern part of Sulawesi Island. It is known for snow-white sand resembling flour, warm water of light blue color, perfectly clean territory. There are also dense forests, palm groves and magnificent peaks.
The beach consists of 2 parts:
- western – an area with bars, restaurants, food stalls and tourist infrastructure. 90% of people have a rest here;
- eastern – a quiet place, ideal for a secluded pastime with friends.
Tanjung Bira is characterized by a smooth set of depth, good waves and a refreshing breeze. In the morning there is a high tide, during which part of the beach is absorbed by water. In the evening, the ocean recedes and the shore expands.
Tanjung Bira is ideal for swimming, diving, snorkeling and surfing. Here they take sunbaths, organize picnics, arrange walks. Tourists are boated, taught to dive, taken on sea voyages and raids along the coast.
The main contingent of the beach is couples from all over the world. Also, here fans of water sports, gastronomic tourists, couples in love are resting. They fill the shore at 9-10 in the morning. If you want to take a better place by the ocean, come early.
You can go to the beach at any time of the year – its daily temperature does not fall below 29 degrees. From October to April there is a rainy season with short but powerful showers. In July, a dry period begins, during which the temperature rises to 33-35 degrees.
When is it better to go?
The air temperature throughout the year differs little and keeps within + 28-30 degrees. In the evening and at night, it is slightly cooler, but the thermometer rarely falls below +23 degrees. The water temperature is also stable. In order to avoid the rainy season (months from December to March), it is better to visit the country from May to August.

Infrastructure
300 meters from the beach there is a hotel Patma Bira located in a picturesque building made of natural stone and wood. The following amenities are offered to its guests:
- lush garden with palm trees, shrubs and flowers;
- free parking lot;
- room service;
- terrace with dining room;
- fenced inland with benches and walking paths.
The hotel has a diving and snorkeling school. Here you can order a transfer from the hotel, iron your clothes or return it to the laundry. All hotel rooms are equipped with air conditioning, private bathrooms, modern furniture. No internet access.
On the beach there is a continental restaurant, a cozy bar and 10+ villas for rent. There is a small market, changing cabins, toilets. A mooring is located in the eastern part of Tanjung Bira. There you can book a boat trip or arrange visits to neighboring islands.

Tanjung Bira Beach is 200 km from Makassar (the island's capital). You can get here by the following route:
- after getting out of the plane, get to Malengkeri bus station by taxi or public transport;
- transfer to the bus heading towards Bulukumba and get off at the last stop;
- buy a ticket for Pit Pit (the local name for transport cars) that runs to Tanjung Bira.
Please note: Indonesian public transport travels with big problems. If you want to avoid delays and unpleasant surprises, take a taxi from the airport to Tanjung Bira or rent a car.
