One Dollar Beach

One Dollar Beach is located in Dili region and is considered to be one of the best places for solitary relaxation. This great part of the shore provides good opportunities for relaxation amongst untouched nature and examining the underwater world.

Beach description

The beach occupies rather a vast area. It is wide and even, and is covered with with light soft sand. The sea here is very clear and transparent. Right near the beach, the bottom is covered with sand, and coral reefs begin a bit farther. The underwater world in the beach area is incredibly rich and versatile. Here, you can see tropical fish, sea turtles, an other exotic reef inhabitants. Whales and dolphins also come to the beach often.

One Dollar Beach gives no additional conditions for beach recreation, except wonderful nature. Numerous abandoned recreation objects (summer houses, benches, bungalows) are located on the beach. There are no hotels nearby; you can find various accommodation offers in Dili.

The closest large city (Dili) allows seeing the interesting sights. The most popular of them are:

  • Large statue of Jesus (Cristo Rei) with an observation site;
  • Santa Crus cemetery;
  • metropolitan church (Immaculate Conception Cathedral).

When is it better to go

The rainy season in East Timor comes between December and April. Sunny and stable weather lasts from May to November, but the period from May to June, until the intense heat spread over the island, is considered the most comfortable time to travel.

How to get there

There is a good road from Dili to the beach, stretching along the picturesque coast. The distance between the city and One Dollar Beach is just over 40 km. You can only get here by personal (or rented) transport.
