Located in the southwestern part of Gabon on the peninsula of the same name, separating the Atlantic Ocean and the mouth of the Como River. It is one of the best resorts in the country and a favorite vacation spot for both numerous tourists and local residents. You can get to the beach by boat or ferry from the sea harbor of Libreville, the capital of Gabon. Travel time is about twenty minutes, it is better to purchase tickets in advance.

Beach description

At Pointe-Denis, you can stay on the equipped beaches of luxury hotels and private villas, as well as in the more secluded and wild spots on the western side of the peninsula. The most important thing is not to go deep into the jungle and not to swim far from the shore – you can count on qualified help only in the vicinity of hotels.

It's also worth remembering that the beach is located on the territory of a nature reserve, where many different representatives of the local fauna live. That is why it's important to be careful, to keep an eye on things and to look carefully at the feet and sides.

Otherwise, the beach is not much different from other tropical resorts. The picturesque shoreline is covered with golden sand and surrounded by the mangrove trees. The water is crystal-clear, transparent and of amazing turquoise hue. In the central part, there are numerous bars, restaurants, sports equipment rentals and water attractions. There are beach umbrellas and sunshades, but you shouldn't ignore the protective equipment and hats – the tropical sun is very treacherous!

Lovers of exotic and wildlife can visit the nests of rare leatherback turtles (from December till February) or go on an excursion to the savannah, where you can see elephants, antelopes and buffalo. From July to September, whales come close to the shore, and special boat trips are organised to observe them.

When is the best time to go?

A typical tropical monsoon climate with a long rainy season is typical of these places. Therefore, the best months to visit the surroundings of Libreville are from June to August, when the amount of precipitation is minimal, the air warms up to 30, and the water in the ocean – up to 25 degrees.
