Beach description
Cocoloco Beach is an unfrequented beach, located in a remote area, making it somewhat difficult to access. Its coastline is adorned with soft, golden sand. Unlike neighboring beaches, Cocoloco is much cleaner. The entry into the ocean in the Cocoloco region is gentle, with an even sandy bottom, which makes it ideal for swimming. The sea breeze often forms strong waves, perfect for practicing water sports such as windsurfing, surfing, kitesurfing, and sailing.
This beach serves as a breeding ground for sea turtles and is situated near the habitat of estuarine birds, offering visitors the opportunity to:
- bathe;
- sunbathe;
- admire the stunning views;
- enjoy a cruise;
- relax at the beach bar;
- play beach volleyball or football;
- observe the turtle migration to lay eggs from November to December;
- explore the local wildlife;
- watch how local fishermen catch fish.
Cocoloco is primarily visited by companies or solo travelers who are lovers of wildlife and African exotics. The lack of developed infrastructure makes it less accessible for families with children.
Access to the beach is possible by rented car or public transport from the town of Tema.
When is the best time to go?
The best time to visit Ghana for a beach vacation is during the dry season, which typically runs from November to March. During this period, the weather is predominantly sunny and dry, with minimal rainfall, making it ideal for beach activities and relaxation.
- November to March: This is the peak season for beachgoers, as the climate is hot and dry, with clear blue skies. The sea temperatures are also warm, perfect for swimming and water sports.
- December: December is particularly popular due to the festive season, with vibrant cultural events and celebrations taking place across the country.
- Late February to Early March: These months are especially recommended for those looking to avoid the busiest times while still enjoying excellent beach weather.
It's important to note that while this period offers the best beach weather, it is also the peak tourist season, so early booking of accommodations and activities is advised. Outside of these months, the rainy season can bring heavy showers and high humidity, which might not be ideal for a beach vacation.
