Skeleton Coast beach

Desert beach of Atlantic at this point became the grave of many colonists. Fogs, which are not uncommon, hid the nearby beach line from ships. Many were wrecked on the reefs, and the castaways remained here. Arid desert without water or food was their curse.

There are many wrecks in coastal zone, but they are all at a distance from each other. Magnitude of the tragedy can only be estimated from the air, if you organize a flight on a small plane. Special excursions can be arranged for tourists.

You can also visit this place on your own, but you can't spend the night. It is forbidden. If guards notice the tent, they will be escorted out of reserve.

In the southern part of Skeleton Coast is a fishing town, where professional fishermen can organize a first-class fishing in the ocean.

When is it better to go

You can travel to Namibia year-round. The climate is dry due to the desert influence. In the summer months (December, January and February), air temperature can reach + 38˚. In winter, the air temperature rises on average to + 25˚, but during this period it is very humid.

If you want to visit nature reserves and the desert, you should come to Namibia in the winter. For a beach holiday, the best time is from November to April. But we must remember that the Atlantic is not too warm. Even at the peak of the beach season in February, the water temperature off the coast in the Atlantic Ocean does not rise above + 23˚.
