Pirita beach

Pirita large beach, situated within Tallinn, is a popular place where locals and tourists from all over the world come for vacation. The stone pier going into the water on the beach offers a bewitching view of the Old town and busy traffic in the Gulf of Finland with numerous ferries, yachts, sailboats.

Beach description

Pirita is a crowded clean and quiet beach for family vacation, it has a length of 2 km. This wide sandy beach is surrounded by a lush pine forest park. The old city is located 6 km away. Pirita Beach has European Honorary Blue Flag Award which confirms the environmental friendliness of this touristic place. Entrance to the beach is free. The Baltic Sea water is clean, clear, and always cool. The beach is covered with snow-white sand, the increasing of bottom depth is smooth, it is not deep near the beach line. There are all the conditions for peaceful family vacation.

Among guests, there are many tourists from Tallinn and Europe. Pets are allowed on the territory. On the beach, tourists walk, go morning and evening jogging every day. This place would be perfect for romantic walking. On the beach, the touristic season starts in June and lasts till September. The weather is windy, the waves are high. On the far territory of Pirita, nudists like to spend their time.

When is it better to go

You can get to the beach by city public bus, rented or personal car, or use the shuttle service. On Pirita beach, there are a lot of hotels, guest houses with rooms of different comfort level and different services: spa, swimming pool, free Internet, etc. You should book the room in advance, at least six months before the trip. Thus, you would be able to choose good hotel, good room, and save half the price.

For the comfort of guests, changing and modern shower stalls, toilets and lockers for storing valuables are installed on the beach. Young people and adults spend their time actively playing volleyball or football in specially equipped areas. Children have fun on playgrounds and rides. There is a rental point for swimming equipment on the beach: catamarans, scooters, boats. Not far from the beach, there is a golf course. Pirita is great for windsurfing and kiteboarding. The beach is cleaned by utility services every day.

Guests sunbathe, relax on towels or sunbeds rented in local rental point. Here you can take an umbrella and other equipment necessary for beach rest. These goods are sold in local shops. Rescues work on the beach every day to ensure the safety of vacationers. There are spacious unguarded paid car parkings. Also, information stands are installed to make it easier for tourists to navigate the resort.

In summer, kiosks, beach bars, cafes are open, peddling takes place on the beach. Menus of caterings have a large assortment. There is a place for picnic. Not far from the resort, there are numerous shops, supermarkets with different goods. Along the beach line, there is a long and wide paved promenade. It will take two hours to walk along it. On the way, you will see a monument to the Mermaid, then go to the Viimsi district.

Useful information

Not far from Pirita, there are a lot of local sights and architectural monuments:

  1. Monastery of St. Brigitte or The ruins of Pirita Monastery. The stone walls of the building majestically rise above the river. This is a unique monastery where both monks and nuns lived at the same time. Only empty huge windows, the cemetery, underground caves and vast territory are left of once majestic building.
  2. At the mouth of the Pirita River, since 1980, the Olympic center has been located, built for Olympic regatta.
  3. Yacht port and boat station. Here tourists rent runabouts, boats for boat trips around the neighbourhood.
  4. Adventure Park. In the surrounding forest park, there are 9 sports paths for walks, the necessary equipment is installed and in free access. This is one of the most popular places for vacation among children and adults in Tallinn.
  5. A paved promenade with the length of 2 km with souvenir shops, cafes, and other infrastructure elements.

On the promenade and in the city you can find representatives of travel agencies who offer tourists to go on excursions of different directions on land and by the sea.
