Vivonne Bay beach

Vivonn Bay is a beach in the bay of the same name on the south coast of Kangaroo Island. You can get to the bay by rented car from Kingscote Airport or from the ferry pier. Public transport does not go to Vivonn Bay.

Beach description

Wild sandy beach is located in a secluded place among the spinney of eucalyptus trees. There is a parking lot and camping. The entrance to the water is gentle, and the bottom is sandy and stony. The beach has high waves, therefore, it's a great place for surfing. The water is cold at any time of year, so it is better to bring your wetsuits. The campsite has water and places equipped with trailers and tents. There are no shops, restaurants and supermarkets nearby, so you should take with you the things you need for rest and provision. Vivonn Bay is unsuitable for vacation with children. You can see koalas in eucalyptus trees. There are possums, wombats, kangaroos, and occasionally echidna.

When is it better to go

The busiest swimming season in Australia lasts from December to February. In this summer, for the southern latitudes, the mainland heats up to 25-30 °C, in places up to 40 °C. In winter (June to August) the air is cooled down to 11 °C. May and September are considered the best beach months with a cloudless sky and not too active sun.
