Monuriki Island beach

Monuriki Island is a tiny island on South of Pacific Ocean. It's only 1km long and 600m wide. One of the three brothers in Mamanuka group. The island is surrounded by coral reefs, a small area is valuable by protected species of vegetation, rare species of iguanas. Volcanic island is chosen by sea turtles, terrestrial and migratory birds.

Beach description

Monuriki Island is uninhabited, but is a popular tourist destination thanks largely to the film with the famous Tom Hanks. Tourists come here from the neighbouring resorts, to explore the rocky terrain, quench the midday thirst with coconut on one of several white sandy beaches and take a lot of pictures.

The local unique ecosystem, which ensures the survival, reproduction, migration of many marine and terrestrial species, is carefully protected. Only the chief of the Yanya village can allow people to visit this place. People of Yanya are the main keepers of Monuriki Island and they do a lot to recover and keep its unique nature.

Arriving on the island with a one-day tour tourists of different age sunbathe and splash in the calm water, watch the wildlife, explore the surrounding coral reefs.

When is the best time to go?

In Fiji, good weather lasts 12 months a year. But the islands have some seasonal features. In winter, warm weather is maintained there at + 23-25 °C. But this period is not suitable for fans of yachts, surfing and swimming due to frequent storms. In spring, the sea becomes calmer, but heavy rains persist. The dry season starts in early May and lasts until the end of October. At this time, the average temperature of air and water reaches + 26-27 °C. The bright sun and cloudless sky persist in Fiji until mid-November.
