Rabida beach

Rabida Beach is a small popular beach on the island of the same name located south of the island of San Salvador. An alternative locality name is Jervis.

Beach description

The island of Rabida with an area of 5 km² is the geological center of the archipelago located at an altitude of 367 meters above sea level. The beach is crowded thanks to the original red sand on the coast. This feature attracts tourists to the Galapagos from around the world. The color of the sand is the combination of volcanic soil and iron oxides in large quantities.

In the vicinity of the beach there are back-trees, cacti, undersized shrubs. Iguanas, flamingos, pelicans live in the lagoons. Sea lion colonies live on the island’s western coast. The climate is hot. The water in the ocean is clean and warm. The beach is popular and famous. People get to the coast by sea taxi (speed boat). Waves and wind are during a storm. Usually the weather is calm and favorable for a relaxing beach holiday.

When is it better to go

In search of a beach holiday, the continental part of Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands can be visited all year round; however, the period from December to May will be the best choice, because the water gets warmer and the rainy season softens the enervating heat.
