Galibi beach

Galibi Beach is located in the small fishing village of Galibi along the Marowijne river, in the northeastern part of the Republic of Suriname.

Beach description

Snow-white sand, endless beaches and tall palm trees along the coast are the hallmarks of Galibi Beach. You can get to Galibi Beach from the capital of Paramaribo, a distance of about 120 km between the towns. There are no vehicles in the village, and the footpaths ar made of snow-white sand.

Most beach tourists are attracted by the huge turtles that live on the Alantic coast. Every year they lay eggs in the sand of Galibi Beach. This is an area where the world's rarest Bissa turtle lives. The main attraction of the area is the Galibi Nature Reserve with turtles in the village of Albin. Galibi has no developed infrastructure for comfortable tourism, so the beaches are usually not crowded. Galibi Beach is the ideal place for ecotourism with local color. Ocean winds and high waves create perfect conditions for extreme surfing.

When is the best time to go?

It rains in Suriname  from November to January and from May to July. In rainy seasons, you can be bothered not only by rainfall, but also by the fact that they can be accompanied by strong winds that tear leaves from trees. In all other months, the weather for visiting Suriname is propitious.
