Koh Tarutao beach

Koh Tarutao is the biggest island of the same named sea National Park, located in South of Thailand.

Beach description

The whole territory of Koh Tarutao is occupied by miles of deserted sandy beaches, 700m mountains and tropical forest which stretches along the island and takes 70% of land. In 30's the island was used as a place of isolation of political prisoners, but today on the North coast of the island is the headquarters of the National Park and a small infrastructure:

  • restaurant,
  • shop,
  • three cafes,
  • bungalows,
  • camping,
  • bicycles rental agencies.

There are no hotels, guesthouses and resorts on the beach, tourists stay in a camp or in administration cottages. Koh Tarutao doesn't have bars, clubs and nightlife, this is the wild island without touristic infrastructure.

People come to the National Park's territory for a few days to enjoy the nature. People get to Ko Tarutao by passing, route ships from the pier Pakbara or Koh Lipe island. There are no villages or towns, only deserted beaches, waterfalls, caves and wild tropical forests with exotic flora and fauna. There are several good quality roads ob the island for comfortable drive. Koh Tarutao is a resort for those who love untouched nature, peace and quiet with a minimum of amenities. The island is covered with fine white sand; the water in the ocean is clean and transparent, with various of exotic fish. Popular activities: diving and snorkeling. Local attractions: the ruins of the prison on Ao Taloh Udang beach and Crocodile cave.

When is it better to go

The period from November to March is considered the high season in Thailand. Comfortable air temperature, as well as minimal rainfall create optimal conditions for a beach holiday.
