Prickly Pear Cays beach

Prickly Pear Cays, two uninhabited coral islands, are part of a guarded sea park considered to be a popular location for underwater diving and ornithology. They are located 10 km north-west away from the land, with a small channel separating them from each other.

Beach description

The western island stretching for 1.2 km is rocky and is also surrounded by the rocky coral reef complicating the boat access. Its eastern neighbor is 1.6 km long and 400 m wide. It has the sandy coastline, salt ponds, and boat pier zone. There are closed recreation zones, water closets, two restaurants and a bar where you can not only have your lunch but also rent a surf board,a seabob, a kayak, and snorkeling equipment. Guests come here from Sandy Ground by water taxi (the trip takes around 2 minutes).

In the area of Western island, you can explore several sunken ships, coral reefs, rocky cliffs, and caves from 12 to 21 m deep. The rich sea fauna includes schooling oatfishes, crabs, lobsters, barracudas, angelfishes, groupers, soldierfishers, and butterfly fishes. Nesting birds and sea turtles are a regular event along the rocky coastline of the islands.
