Dean's Blue Hole beach

This phenomenon, which scientists still cannot solve, is very attractive for scuba diving enthusiasts. A phenomenon called Dean's Blue Hole is an ocean hole 663 feet deep. Today it is a mecca of freedivers for training and competition. A terrain relief represented by an amphitheater made of natural stone, which borders it on three sides, as well as a turquoise lagoon and a snow-white beach on the fourth side, deserves special attention around it.

Beach description

This place is located to the west of Clarence on Long Island and is the second deepest underwater sinkhole in the world (the first is in the South China Sea). It' s attractive primarily for professional divers, but families with children or “not much of a” swimmers are interested only from the point of view of a rare natural wonder. It's not recommended for untrained people to swim here, as its underwater relief is a form of a drain sink. Descending from the sandy beach is extremely abrupt – before you know it, you'll be sucked in. And without special equipment, such an event can be immediately considered as death.

Around the hole, the depth of the water is just the waist of an adult. It's convenient to snorkel at this depth. Because of its chamber structure, it's characterized by calm waters and lack of waves. The wind just can't get into this area because of the cliffs that surround it. Closer to the funnel (as well as in the funnel) the water temperature is much lower than the average on the Bahamas.

The hole is accessed through the Turtle Cove. Find a blue stone wall on the east side of the highway. Walk the long road to the end, turn right and follow the narrow, winding dirt track to the very end. Go from the parking lot to the beach by foot.

When is the best time to go?

Holidays in the Bahamas are good at any time of the year, but the busy season is in the period from mid-November to May. The Bahamas are disposed quite low in relation to sea level, so the wind blows in the winter months, but it is gentle and soberly pleasant. The air temperature is between 27-29 degrees from the end of autumn to the beginning of summer. Traveling with children, it is better to come in the autumn months, while the spring is more appropriate to go for new emotions, and peacefully enjoy the sunshine – in winter.

Infrastructure

There is no infrastructure, the beach is completely unguarded. There are no lifeguards on the beach, so professional diving and swimming are allowed at your own risk. Swimming at night is not recommended.

Pets are not allowed, which means it’s allowed. Pets can run along the beach and even swim with the owners, but only on a leash, just like in any public place.

There are no rental outlets of ammunition, sales outlets of drinks and food here, so take everything with you. The closest hotels to the beach are in Clarence Town. For example, Harbor Breeze Villas.

Useful information

  1. The underwater beauty of this hole just captures the imagination: waterfalls with sand cascades seem unrealistic, and the rich flora and fauna amazes with its diversity. But those who dive deep enough need to be alert. From the depths, barracuda and tarpon may appear. But since visibility is excellent, you should see them in time and try to avoid meeting (although at such a depth their current discharges are not fatal). More harmless local "living creatures" are turtles, perches and tropical fish.
  2. Since the beach is located in an open area, surrounded by the waters of the bay and the ocean, you can get a perfectly even chocolate tan.
  3. The "Blue Hole" has been the site of numerous competitions, as well as world and national freediving records over the past few years.
