South Friars beach is covered with soft and light yellow, almost white sand, comfortable for bare feet. The entry to the sea is steep. At the bottom there are a lot of sharp shells, stones, sometimes there are sea urchins, so it's advisable not to go into the water barefoot. The water is clean, transparent, very warm. There are no waves. Not far from the shore there is a lot of algae, rays and flocks of tropical fish are floating, purple stars crawl on the bottom between the stones.
Portales Beach's infrastructure is well-developed. There are showers, cabins for changing, toilets, rental of comfortable sun loungers and deck chairs made of rattan, umbrellas. A restaurant with excellent cuisine. One of the main local sights is the bay, fenced with boulders, where snorkeling lovers swim. That's where pelicans dive for their prey. In a remote area the beach transforms into a zone with black volcanic sand.
South Friars is the most crowded beach on the island and is extremely popular with tourists. The locals don't come there.
The beach is not the best place for holidays with children, especially young ones. When going to South Fryers, you should take into account the trip that is tiring for your child and the rocky bottom.
