Boavista beach

Santa Monica Beach, the Pearl of Boavista Island, is completely sandy, and not only it one, on this island (and on all the nearest ones) you will not find any shingle. Everywhere sand is light yellow, “desert”. The characteristic hue does not change on the entire coastline.

When enter the water, you will not feel a sharp increase in depth - there will be 20-30 meters of shallow water, so there is nothing to worry about, there will be no dangerous "pits" and occurring currents. But with regard to the prospect of cutting, everything is much more pessimistic - the whole point is that there are a lot of mollusks on the coastline of the island, which shells are very sharp, so here it is very easy to injure.

It is definitely very difficult to say something, concerning popularity and crowdedness. If you compare the Santa Monica beach with other beaches of Boavista island, then there is simply “hardly room to move” - there are people at any time of the day or night, since all the other beaches of the island are not popular. But despite its civilization, lovers of a calm rest and European-quality service will not be tempted by Santa Monica beach (and the country of Cape Verde as a whole). But for diving and surfing, this place is perfect! So the “target audience” of Santa Monica beach is represented, mainly, by young people, who prefer active rest and love extreme sports (within reasonable limits). And the entire infrastructure is focused primarily on them.

And another zest of Santa Monica beach is the possibility to watch sea turtles. They are so accustomed to tourists and absolutely not afraid of them, that it is even possible to watch closely, how little turtles hatch from their shells and hastily run to the sea (many vacationers only here broke the stereotype, that turtles move slowly). These animals (like everyone else) are very strictly protected by the authorities here, and therefore tourists always have a great opportunity to admire the wildlife.

Once again about transport - everything is settled here, and it is possible almost always to get to Santa Monica beach without any problems. It should be noted, that the vast majority of tourists prefer to stay in hotels, that are located in close proximity to the beach - from them it takes no more than 5 minutes to the water, and with a walking step. Those vacationers, who want to save money (rental of room in a hotel, located on the sea coast, will cost 5-6 times more, than living in a rented apartment in the Sal Rey), can take a regular bus or rent a car. The latter option is preferable for extremals, who rest at campsite.

When is it better to go?

The year-round weather in Cape Verde is warm, not exceeding 23-26 degrees Celsius. However, from August to October, the rainy season begins in Cape Verde, which smoothly flows into the high season in November-March, when Europeans go to rest in warm countries in winter. It turns out that the best time to visit the islands is from April to August.
