Half Moon Caye beach

The coast of Half Moon Caye is a safe, shallow beach surrounded by a forest of orange trees. It provides a unique opportunity to go snorkeling and diving. The Half Moon Caye Wall dive site is located near the Lighthouse Reef Atoll, 80 km east of Belize City. The most convenient way to get to it is by sea, by renting a boat or yacht.

Beach description

Since Half Moon Caye is a reserve, there are no hotels, shops or any other localities on its territory. For the same reason, the island beach is never crowded. The coastal zone and seabed in the dive site area are sandy, there are no underwater currents, the barrier reef is one of the most picturesque, and underwater life is diverse. The diving depth in the beach area is more than 9 m, visibility is 30 m. After sunbathing and enjoying bathing in the waters of the Caribbean Sea, visitors have an opportunity to see the inhabitants of the reserve, watching turtles, geckos, boobies, frigates, mangrove warblers and other animals. In addition, the Great Blue Hole, a sinkhole of particular interest to diving lovers, is located near the Half Moon Caye coast.

When is the best time to go?

The dry period in Belize lasts from February to April, the rest of the time there is the rainy season (the heaviest rainfalls occur in August), and in the north it is much drier than in the south. If you are not afraid of the raging elements, then the best time to travel is – from December to May, when the rains are already insignificant, and the temperature is kept at 29-30 degrees.
