Beach description
Vela beach is located in Baska (in the South of Krk island). It is famous for clear sky-colored water, clean air and a rocky surface on which you can walk barefoot. Also this place has the following features:
- beautiful scenery. From all parts of the coast you can see rocky cliffs, tourist yachts, the local bay and the endless water surfacer;
- large size, more than 1.8 km long and up to 50 meters wide. There are many secluded places where you can retire with friends and sunbathe naked;
- plenty of greenery. The beach is surrounded by dense forests and park areas;
- perfect order. There is no garbage, sea urchins, sharp and health hazard objects in the territory of “Vela”. Its cleanness is confirmed by the award “Blue Flag”;
- quiet and peaceful atmosphere. There are no tourist crowds, annoying merchants, loud music.
The beach is located in a picturesque Bay and is surrounded by mountain peaks. It is characterized by a smooth set of depth, calm waters and mostly windless weather. There is sunny weather most days of the year. Also, “Vela” has a rich underwater world. Every year thousands of divers come here to admire the sea rocks, large and small fish, bizarre algae. The brave explore the nearby underwater caves.
Vela beach is popular among Italian, German and Croatian tourists. It is ideal for young families, travelers, introverts, camping fans. It is also visited by tourist groups as part of excursions on liners and boats. Thousands of people rest here during the peak tourist season. However, in the morning (before 8: 00) and in the evening (after 21: 00), the local shore remains half empty.
People come here to admire nature, swim enough, get a smooth and beautiful tan. Also, guests of the beach entertain themselves with hiking, gastronomic experiments, conquering the local mountains and plains. Well, on hot days, vacationers conquer the local forests, arranging picnics and enjoying leisurely walks.
Interesting fact: the first bathing season of “Vela” started in 1908. It began its existence as a tiny beach, but after 100 years has turned into a huge recreation area that can accommodate up to 7 thousand people.
When is it better to go?
Although the summer in Croatia is hot (the temperature can rise up to 30 degrees), but thanks to the sea breezes it is very pleasant - the best time for a beach holiday. If you want to see the sights of this country rich in historical events, it is better to choose tours in spring or autumn: firstly, the weather is comfortable, and secondly, there are not so many tourists in these times of the year, which positively affects prices.
