Squeaky beach

Many tourists dream of walking along the famous white sand of Squicky - one of the iconic beaches of the Wilsons Promontory National Park (Victoria). The strange name Squeaky (in the translation “Squeaky Beach”) is due to its coating, which consists of rounded particles of quartz, emitting a characteristic crunch underfoot.

Beach description

After coming to a large space of virgin white sand and having selected a convenient place, one can spend hours in watching the turquoise sea, faraway islands and long capes. Romantic people will enjoy boat tours along the beach. Surfers and bodyboarders will value small waves but low-experiences swimmers and children should take caution due to dangerous currents and the absence of rescuers. Adventure seekers will love the northern beach edge, with its large granite boulders creating twisted alleys. In sunset rays, orange rocky statues resemble knight's armor.

You can get to Squeaky Beach by bus or by taxi approximately for 3 hours from Melbourne. There is a bathroom near the parking lot. The beach visitors with special needs are provided with all-terrain wheelchairs.

When is it better to go

The busiest swimming season in Australia lasts from December to February. In this summer, for the southern latitudes, the mainland heats up to 25-30 °C, in places up to 40 °C. In winter (June to August) the air is cooled down to 11 °C. May and September are considered the best beach months with a cloudless sky and not too active sun.
