St. Kilda beach

St. Kilda is Melbourne's city beach and a favorite vacation spot for locals and tourists, suitable for walks and picnics by the ocean, sports, restaurants and shops.

Beach description

Saint Kilda is a long beach area, very well-equipped and neat. The clean sand beach is separated from the city buildings with a cozy quay. The ocean in this area of Australia is almost always too cold for swimming, so the most visitors prefer other types of beach entertainment.

The beach is situated on the cost site that is perfect both for calm beach recreation and for engaging in various kinds of sports. Facilities available:

  • public toilets;
  • shower stalls and changing cabins;
  • equipped BBQ sites.

Saint Kilda is situated within the city limits, so many hotels, cafes, restaurants and stores are located near it. Nearby, several curious objects of Melbourne are situated the most popular of which are the Amusement park and the botanic garden.

When is it better to go

The busiest swimming season in Australia lasts from December to February. In this summer, for the southern latitudes, the mainland heats up to 25-30 °C, in places up to 40 °C. In winter (June to August) the air is cooled down to 11 °C. May and September are considered the best beach months with a cloudless sky and not too active sun.
