Salmon Bay beach

The secluded white sandy beach of Salmon Bay is one of the idyllic spots on the north side of Rottnest Island. Large and untouched, with a shallow shore and clear water, it is ideal for families, swimming, swimming and snorkeling. Salmon Bay is a rich natural aquarium with massive coral beds and brightly colored fish. This is a real treasure for underwater explorers.

Beach description

The middle of Salmon Bay is filled with large stones, dangerous with strong current and waves breaking against the shore. The route of underwater investigations starts from the left side of the beach and stretches to the limestone reef, according to the plates.

The eastern bay part is better protected from open waters. It is safe for newcomers in snorkeling. It is rather far from the main the island sites and a station accepting ferries fro Perth. That is why you'll need to use a bicycle or a bus to go from the village. But calm, relaxed swimming in clear water is worth addiitonal efforts required to get to this magical place.

When is it better to go

The busiest swimming season in Australia lasts from December to February. In this summer, for the southern latitudes, the mainland heats up to 25-30 °C, in places up to 40 °C. In winter (June to August) the air is cooled down to 11 °C. May and September are considered the best beach months with a cloudless sky and not too active sun.
