Ritidian beach

Ritidian is a sandy beach on the territory of the nature reserve. It had the status of a closed zone under the protection of the US Army just a while ago . Today it has become an ideal place for swimming, picnics and fishing.

Beach description

5 main features of Ritidian:

  1. there is a cedar grove near the shore where you can hide from the Summer sun;
  2. you need to walk for 30-50 meters before reaching the deeper spots;
  3. the waters are bright blue;
  4. you can spot unique types of snails and mouses in the forests nearby;
  5. the beach is covered in soft and white sand which you can freely walk on barefoot.

The remains of the autochthonous village Chamorro, destroyed by the Spanish 600 years ago, are located near the beach. The ancient artifacts of its inhabitants, that include works of art, have survived to this day. All of those can be found in the main building of the nature reserve and in the nearby caves.

No waves, no wind and bright sun are Ritidian's features. History enthusiasts and those who like calm atmosphere visit this place. The average amount of tourists is about few hundred. Which isn't a lot considering the overall length of the beach (over 4 km). It is possible to get here by car or taxi.

The road to Ritidian isn't the best. An off-road vehicle is required for better navigation.

When is the best time to go?

Typhoons in Guam are intermittent and the weather is warm all year round. The best time to visit is the dry season - from January to June.
