Sawarna beach

Sawarna Beach is a fabulous beach with huge rocks, 3-storey waves and fantastic nature. It is famous for its clean air, quiet and peaceful atmosphere, ideal conditions for diving and surfing. People come here looking for peace and quiet.

Beach description

Sawarna has sandy and rocky beach, surrounded by mountains, forests and endless ocean. The shore is covered with soft emerald moss which is nice to walk barefoot. There are also huge boulders of bizarre shapes, stone slabs, reefs and exotic shrubs. From the local shore opens a wonderful view on two giant rocks (more than 15 m in height), rich blue waters and the surrounding land.

Sawarna consists of two parts: sandy beach surrounded by shops, hotels, bars, and a rocky shore with wild nature. Not far away is a Sawarna Village with lush rice fields and colorful buildings. People there sell fresh fish, local fruit and indonesian souvenirs. Also not far from Sawarna there is a chain of rocks resembling a medieval fortress and cave complexes with stalagmites and underground tunnels.

Most part of the beauty is hidden underwater. Diving enthusiasts come here to admire coral reefs, tropical fish species, colorful algae and underground rocks. Also here are perfect conditions for surfing, extreme swimming and snorkeling. More relaxing holiday lovers walk along the shore, admire the 3-storey waves or arrange picnics on the local peaks.

Sawarna is characterized by a sharp set of depth, strong winds and huge waves. Children are not allowed to swim here or to be on the beach without supervision. It's recommended to buy special shoes in order not to hurt feet. Local climate is extremely changeable: heavy rains often changes with hot days. However this beach is so beautiful that it's worth to visit in any weather.

The main contingent of the beach: active travellers, surfers, divers, survivalist, wild nature lovers and local citizens. They are attracted to the following advantages of Sawarna:

  • sparsely populated, the shore is always have free space all year round;
  • perfect ecology, here are transparent waters with clean air with ocean scent;
  • safety, crimes are recorded rarely. 99% of them are petty theft;
  • silence and tranquility – there are no intrusive merchants, noisy parties and other “charms of civilization”.

Interesting fact: according to legend, Naya Loro Kidula, a sea goddess with a mermaid tail, lives in local waters. She abducts young and beautiful fishermen, and also causes storms in moments of anger.

When is it better to go?

The air temperature throughout the year differs little and keeps within + 28-30 degrees. In the evening and at night, it is slightly cooler, but the thermometer rarely falls below +23 degrees. The water temperature is also stable. In order to avoid the rainy season (months from December to March), it is better to visit the country from May to August.

Infrastructure

On the beach there is a coffee shop, an Indonesian restaurant, a small bar and a travel agency where you can book a tour. Within a radius of 500 meters from the beach there is a cozy park, +10 hotels, parking for caravans, gas stations, a supermarket and a shopping center.

Useful information

You can reach Savarn by bus using one of the following routes:

  • from the capital – take the public bus Jakarta-Pelabuhan Ratu (Sukabumi). In Pelabuhan buy a ticket for the shuttle bus to Savarn;
  • from Bogor – take the bus to Pelabuhan Ratu. After, take the shuttle bus or jeep shuttle to Savarn;
  • there is a direct bus from Serang to Savarn.

Important: Indonesia's public transport is often late. If possible, travel by personal or rented transport.
