El Zonte beach

Playa El Zonte is one of the best beaches in El Salvador. World-class waves and bohemian atmosphere on the beach attract surfers of all levels. For their convenience, there are hotels, boarding houses and hostels near the beach, where they can stay comfortably during the holiday. A wide range of restaurants and bars will be able to satisfy all tastes.

Beach description

The beach is located in the town of El Zonte, about an hour drive from Comalapa International Airport and the capital – San Salvador. You can come here by bus, rented car or taxi.

The surface of El Zonte Beach consists of black volcanic sand, rocks and rock formations. The ocean floor in the beach area is made of stone, which together with the intensive surf makes it hardly accessible for swimming. Known as a popular surf spot, where national and international events are held and which has all conditions for doing this water sport by whole family, Playa El Zonte is nevertheless considered a relatively quiet and private place.

Visitors to the beach have the opportunity to rent equipment and get personalized surfing lessons. In addition to water sports, they can also sunbathe and go fishing, play football, go on boat trips and trips to inland to explore pre-Columbian archaeological monuments and national parks, run in the rivers of El Salvador in a raft or kayak.

When is the best time to go?

From May to October, in Salvador, there are heavy rains, after which the most climatically favorable period for visiting the country begins - from November to April. It should be borne in mind that in late December - early January, resorts are filled with vacationers who come to celebrate Christmas and New Year (mainly by Americans), which affects prices.
