Yyteri beach

Yyteri Beach is the most picturesque sandy beach in Western Finland. It is located in the resort of the same name, about 17 km from the center of Pori. Incredible snow-white sand dunes, waves, suitable for surfing and a good location, providing easy accessibility, all these gave this coast the glory of one of the most popular beaches in this northern country.

Beach description

Yyteri is one of the few beaches in Finland, which is very popular not only among locals but also among tourists. Its coast stretches for almost 6 km and impresses with incredibly clean fine powdery white sand. This is the longest beach not only in Finland but also among all the Scandinavian countries. A distinctive feature of its landscapes is the extensive dunes, the most picturesque and highest in Europe.

  • The coast is quite wide, and the farther from the shore, the higher the sand dunes, impressing with the contrast of the whiteness of sand and emerald overflow of rare pine trees in the sun growing here.
  • The water here is quite warm, and there is a significant area of shallow water and a gradual increase in depth along the coast, which makes this beach especially popular among families with children. Many people call this coast the “Finnish Riviera.”
  • But when resting with young children, it is worth considering the presence of waves here, although they are not too high, but still strong and constant. It was their stability that gave the beach the glory of one of the best places in the country for surfing and kiting, especially for beginners of these water sports.

People come here for a pleasant pastime on the beach and outdoor activities (playing volleyball, golf), and in the summer season for swimming in warm waters. Part of the coast in the center of Yyteri is intended for vacationers who love naturism and it is one of the two nudist beaches in the country. Interesting enough the first Rolling Stones concert in Finland took place in Yyteri in 1965.

When is the best time to go?

It is best to go to the few beach resorts in Finland in July-August, when the weather is the warmest. In the south-east of the country, the temperature rises even to 30 degrees.
