Ramla beach

Ramla beach is situated on the shores of Ramla Bay in the northern part of Gozo Island.

Beach description

Its long and wide beach line is covered with fine sand light brown sand with a reddish tint. The entry into the water is comfortable for children, it is gentle and sandy. The bottom is sandy and rocky. There are underwater rocks in the northern part of the beach. The sea is still. The territory of the beach and nearby waters are defended from the wind by rocks surrounding the beach line.

Ramla is a very popular beach where there are always a lot of tourists. It is overcrowded during the swimming season. Locals with families and numerous tourists from Western Europe and other countries gather on the only sandy beach of the island.

You can rent sunbeds and umbrellas, water equipment for parasailing, diving, windsurfing, there are cafes and bars, shop points with soft drinks, ice cream, fast food on the beach.

On Ramla beach, fans of diving and snorkeling like to spend their time. In the waters of the bay is a very picturesque underwater world with grottoes and underwater caves, where various representatives of marine fauna live.

When is it better to go

The swimming season in Malta lasts from late May to October. The air temperature reaches comfortable +25-30°C, and the water temperature does not fall below +23°C. In some regions of the Maltese archipelago, the water warms up to +26-28°C. In summer, dry, sunny and calm weather prevails. Precipitation is rare. The southern coast of Malta is often influenced by the dry desert winds of Africa, raising high waves and bringing the sultry breath of the Sahara to the islands.

Useful information

The land territory of the beach is also interesting. There, a statue of the Virgin Mary is installed, and in the rocks in the west, the legendary Calypso Cave is located. Ruins of constructions of the era of Ancient Rome are covered with a multi meter layer of sand.

You can reach Ramla beach by ferry from Sliema or Valletta, then by bus or car from Marsalforn.
