Ustka Beach

Ustka, a quaint Polish city, is situated near the heart of the country's Baltic coast, at its northernmost tip. Nestled in the extreme eastern part of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Ustka is renowned for its resort vacations and an abundance of picturesque beaches. Secluded from major thoroughfares, the city lies within a pristine forest zone. Although small, with a population of around 16,000, the residents are predominantly involved in the tourism industry, offering services to enhance your beach vacation experience.

Beach description

The beach line extends along nearly the entire city. It is bordered on both sides by dunes and charming parks that encircle the city with a verdant barrier. Beyond the urban area, the beach becomes rockier and less manicured, with the forest approaching the shores of the Baltic Sea. The forests stretch for approximately 15 kilometers in various directions, reaching Lake Vitsko to the west and Lake Gardno to the east.

Ustka beach is meticulously maintained. Sand was specifically imported to expand the beach area and create a gentle, comfortable slope. The sand varies in color from bright gray to rusted yellow in some spots. Occasionally, you may encounter large grains of sand mixed with fine pebbles, but the majority of the territory is covered with very fine sand, which is delightful for beachgoers yet challenging when it gets into shoes.

The sea is accessible from any point in the city. Moreover, stairs and ramps are readily available to navigate any steep inclines. Along the entire beachfront, a variety of hotels, offering different price points and star ratings, are interspersed. Consequently, the cleanliness of the beach is maintained to the highest standard. Additionally, lifeguards are always present, including patrols on the water aboard small catamarans.

When is the best time to go?

The best time to visit Poland for a beach vacation is during the summer months, specifically from June to August. This period offers the most favorable weather conditions for enjoying the country's beautiful Baltic Sea coastline.

  • June: The onset of summer brings milder temperatures and longer days, making it a great time to enjoy the seaside without the peak season crowds.
  • July: July is the warmest month, with temperatures often reaching up to 30°C (86°F). The warm weather and school holidays make it a popular time for both locals and tourists, resulting in a lively atmosphere.
  • August: The water temperatures peak in August, providing the best conditions for swimming and water sports. However, it's also when beaches are most crowded, so early booking is recommended.

While these summer months are ideal for a beach vacation, it's important to note that they are also the busiest. If you prefer a quieter experience, late May or early September can also offer pleasant weather, though the water might be a bit cooler.

Infrastructure

While staying at the resort, consider enriching your beach vacation with sailing. Poland is renowned for both professional and amateur yachting, and the resort town of Ustka is no exception. The flat coastline, devoid of capes and quays, ensures a steady and gentle breeze, perfect for sailing. Additionally, the safety of sailors is enhanced by the relatively shallow marine depths and the flat sandy seabed along the coast.

Beyond sailing, kiteboarding has gained popularity at the resort. The prime spot for this exhilarating sport lies just west of the main beaches. For those seeking a more tranquil and leisurely experience, the resort abounds with spas offering therapeutic mud and mineral water treatments. These amenities are readily available, with the prestigious five-star Grand Lubicz Hotel as a prime example. A double room at this luxurious establishment is approximately 70-75 euros per day, a rate that includes, among other perks, healing mud treatments complemented by thermal spa sessions.
