Beach description
75 Mile Beach is famous not only for its size but also for its versatile color palette. Its sands form a bright mosaics of white, orange, and ochry shades. The beach is also the place where the ocean liner SS Maheno suffered from wreck.
For swimmers, 75 Mile Beach is a less attractive option for recreation in comparison with people who enjoy sunbathing and fishermen. Local waters are distinguished by dangerous currents and the possibility to meet leopard sharks. So, it is recommended to select one of fresh lakes with just a few minutes away from the beach, for swimming.
Tourists should know that the 75-mile serves as the main highway of the island (for four-wheel drive machines) and the air strip (for light aeroplanes). Its transport accessibility is determined by ebbs and flows.
When is it better to go
The busiest swimming season in Australia lasts from December to February. In this summer, for the southern latitudes, the mainland heats up to 25-30 °C, in places up to 40 °C. In winter (June to August) the air is cooled down to 11 °C. May and September are considered the best beach months with a cloudless sky and not too active sun.
