Huahine beach

The enchanting Huahine Island, nestled a mere 175 km from Tahiti, is a hidden gem in French Polynesia. In reality, Huahine comprises two islands - Huahine Nui (Big Huahine) and Huahine Iti (Small Huahine) - joined gracefully by a bridge. This idyllic destination beckons with its pristine beaches and lush landscapes, promising an unforgettable beach vacation.

Beach description

The most popular beaches stretch along the coast of Big Huahine. The beach strip is long but narrow. The coast comprises sand and shingle, with stones in some places. Coral reefs protect from waves and also act as natural filters. Therefore, the water here, as on all islands of French Polynesia, is exceptionally clean.

The island boasts a unique nature. Here, even a sunray at the time of sunset becomes emerald. It is no wonder that ancient beliefs and local legends ascribe a divine origin and mystical powers to the island.

"Ceremonies" of feeding sharks and observing marine inhabitants are organized for tourists. In the local streams, there are two-meter eels which the local people consider sacred. Incidentally, it is not recommended to swim far out in these waters, as sharks are present in the local waters.

You can reach the island from Tahiti or other nearby islands in just half an hour by plane from local airlines.

When is it better to go

  • The best time to visit French Polynesia for a beach vacation is typically during the dry season, which runs from May to October. During these months, the weather is characterized by less humidity, lower precipitation, and comfortable temperatures, making it ideal for beach activities and water sports.

    • May to October: Dry Season - This is the peak travel season with less rain and more sunny days, perfect for sunbathing, snorkeling, and enjoying the pristine beaches.
    • June to August: Cooler Months - These months offer a cooler climate, which is still warm enough for swimming but more comfortable for exploring the islands.
    • September to October: End of High Season - As the high season winds down, these months can provide a balance of good weather and fewer tourists, allowing for a more relaxed atmosphere.

While the dry season is generally the best time for a beach vacation, it's also the busiest. For those looking to avoid crowds, consider the shoulder months of April and November, when the weather is still pleasant, and the islands are less crowded.
