Atata Island beach

Atata is a small touristic island which is located in the North-West of the capital of the Kingdom of Tonga Nuku'alofa. It is an island of volcanic origin that has the shape of a microphone.

Beach description

The shore is covered with fine white sand and high palms. Entrance to the ocean is smooth, the depth is gradual. No waves, the beach is protected by wide coral reefs.

There is one beach hotel Royal Sunset Island Resort of bungalow type. Tourists who rent accommodation in Nuku'alofa come to the island of Atata with day trips. Tour price is 30$, lunch, guide service and trip itself included into the price.

The island offers kayaking, diving and snorkeling conditions. Locals organize deep sea fishing for tourists. Many tourists who prefer passive recreation can relax in a hammock or on a sun lounger, sunbathe and admire the magnificent scenic scenery.

When is it better to go

The beaches of the Tonga archipelago have a predominantly humid tropical climate. There are no temperature fluctuations in the northern islands, and in the south they are – within 5 degrees. February – is the hottest month, during the day the temperature rises to 30 - 32 degrees Celsius. Between July and September it is cooler. The rainy season lasts from November to April. Powerful tropical cyclones unfold at this time on the archipelago, the weather is stormy. The best time for recreation on the beaches of Tonga is the period from May to October.
