Ha'atafu beach

Ha'atafu is a big beach in the North-West of the coral island of Tongatapu of the Kingdom of Tonga.

Beach description

On the coast of the capital's resort and the bottom is white sand, sometimes there are stones. Lowering of the bottom is smooth, sea is warm. Near the beach is shallow lagoon where people snorkeling and swimming during high tides. Ocean is great for surfing, surfers come here all over the world. Surf resort for 24 people work here. More surfers come here in June and August. Apart from this the resort is popular among divers, diving centers open, here people come for an equipment and diving programs. In Ha'atafu Beach area are many coral reefs and sunken ships, humpback whales swim.

Tourists book rooms in local hotels, but the best one is Holty's Hideaway Ha'atafu. Prices are high, high quality service. Hotels are also work on the shore, they consist of compact chalets, swimming pool, restaurant, terrace, bar. Another accomodation option is shore bungalows. The resort is suitable for holiday with family and children. It's quiet, calm, nice atmosphere.

People get here by bus or taxi. Public transport prices are not high: one way ticket costs 1$.

When is it better to go

The beaches of the Tonga archipelago have a predominantly humid tropical climate. There are no temperature fluctuations in the northern islands, and in the south they are – within 5 degrees. February – is the hottest month, during the day the temperature rises to 30 - 32 degrees Celsius. Between July and September it is cooler. The rainy season lasts from November to April. Powerful tropical cyclones unfold at this time on the archipelago, the weather is stormy. The best time for recreation on the beaches of Tonga is the period from May to October.
