Batu Ferringhi beach

Batu Ferringhi is a beach on the north coast of Penang Island, 15 km from Georgetown. From the city to Batu Ferringhi leads a narrow serpentine along the mountain slopes overgrown with greenery. You can get to the resort from Georgetown and the airport by bus, taxi or rental car.

Beach description

Batu Ferringhi is a long sandy strip of about 2 km long, along which the embankment is located. The beach is well maintained and clean, it is cleaned daily. Entry is gentle, bottom is sandy, but due to high industrial enterprises concentration in the northern region of island, water is muddy and quite dirty, but calm, almost without waves. In the water you can step on sea urchins, so it is better to get special shoes. Quite poisonous jellyfish come across in coastal waters often. Especially it is dangerous for young children. Only a few dare to bathe on Batu Ferringhi. Along the narrow beach line there are many trees in the shade, where you can settle on rugs. There are showers and toilets on the territory. There are umbrellas.

Batu Ferringhi is considered as the best beach on the north coast. Especially crowded on weekends, when large number of citizens with children come from Georgetown. A lot of tourists from the resort hotels.

Many cafes and restaurants are located on the promenade, there is an excellent cafe directly on the beach. Most of the establishments are open from noon until late at night. Regional cuisine deserves special attention, as Penang is dominated by its own culinary traditions, which reflect the gastronomic priorities of the multinational population islands.

It is possible to rent kayaks, buns, boats and motorboats in the rental centers on the beach. For snorkeling, diving and windsurfing it is desirable to choose another beach. Visibility under water is severely limited.

In Batu Ferringhi you can take recovery services. There are numerous reflexology centers, whose visitors are offered massage and acupuncture sessions, SPA treatments.

Night market, which opens daily near the beach from 7 pm and runs until the last buyer deserves special mention. In countless stalls and pavilions there is all for sale- from cheap souvenirs and street food to brand clothes, shoes and electronics, prices are much lower than in large shopping centers. Experienced tourists advise not to buy favorite goods immediately and wander in rows bargaining.

You can go to the Adventure Zone amusement park with a child,where is play areas, playgrounds, and stunning slides for tourists with children.

Useful information

Between Batu Ferringhi and Teluk Bahang is the Tropical Spice Garden, where more than 500 varieties of spicy plants are grown. Tours are held on the park territory, interesting for both adults and children. Culinary school is organized, where everyone can get a master class on cooking malay cuisine using garden spices. There is a gift shop and Tree Monkey restaurant.

Not so far from Batu Ferringhi there is Penang National Park, which can be reached by rented car. In the park you can see about 150 species of tropical flora, including rare species of trees, shrubs, herbs, as well as various representatives of endemic fauna (wild cats, boars, green and leatherback turtles, hawksbill turtle, civet cats, parrots, bats, sea otters). There are mangroves, wetlands, coral reefs and meromictic lake on the territory .
