Beach description
Tyrell Bay Beach boasts white, soft sand, calm and shallow waters, and a gentle descent. Nestled along the shore are both cozy hostels and luxurious hotels. Visitors can explore local cafes and restaurants to savor the local cuisine and rum - a traditional beverage. The beach features a quaint pier with moored private yachts. Additionally, there's a yacht club where you can rent a vessel for fishing during the high season or to tour along the picturesque coast.
Three hundred years ago, this location was one of the most renowned Caribbean slave markets. Slaves from Africa were brought here; the majority were then transported elsewhere, while some remained forever. This historical backdrop contributes to the diverse religious practices and rituals performed by the natives of Carriacou. The island is also known for its vibrant carnivals, which draw numerous tourists each year.
The island is accessible via its own airport, which receives flights from Grenada. You can reach the beach by taxi or enjoy a scenic 30-minute walk.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Grenada for a beach vacation is during the dry season, which runs from January to May. This period offers the most favorable weather conditions for enjoying the island's stunning beaches and outdoor activities.
- January to April: These months are the peak of the dry season, with minimal rainfall and plenty of sunshine, making it the ideal time for sunbathing and water sports.
- May: As the transition month leading into the wet season, May still offers many sunny days with the added benefit of fewer tourists and potentially lower prices.
While the wet season, from June to December, can still provide sunny spells, it also brings increased humidity and the chance of tropical showers. However, if you don't mind occasional rain and are looking for a quieter experience, the off-peak months can also be a good option.
