Jobos beach

Located on the northwest coast of Puerto Rico next to the resort town of Isabela, the capital of the municipality of the same name. Jobos differs from the rest of the island's beaches with its unique atmosphere of lightness and serenity, which invariably attracts not only tourists, but also indigenous people to these places. Usually, these are active youth and surfer athletes, as well as true connoisseurs of beautiful wild landscapes and untouched nature.

There is no developed beach infrastructure, pathos hotels and trendy restaurants. The main advantages of the beach are the fresh sea breeze, high waves breaking on coastal cliffs and exotic palm trees casting an openwork shadow on soft golden sand.

Beach description

The width of the beach varies depending on the season - in winter and early spring it becomes more narrow due to high waves, in summer the sea is calmer and the coastal strip slightly increases in size. The cleanliness of the sand also varies depending on the congestion of the beach - the shore is cleaned by volunteers, however they don't always cope with a dramatically increasing amount of garbage in the high season and weekends.

There are no showers, changing rooms and other usual beach attributes on Jobos, and toilets can be used only in coastal cafes. The beach also lacks security and rescue services, so swimming and water sports should be done with great care. It is worth noting that in these places the waves come with dangerous breaks, which are not always possible even for experienced swimmers.

The safest swimming zone is located in the beach eastern area, closer to Isabela. Here, you can explore the cliffs with a mask, dive from a picturesque stone wall, or play in water with small kids. The bottom in the bay is sandy but sharp stones and shells occur by the beach, so it will be nice to have special shoes.

Jobos is famous for its excellent all-year surfing; and sports competitions and spectacular shows are often held on the beach. Right on the beach, one can rent boards, suits, and all the necessary equipment; there is also a small store of sport goods and accessories. And right here, you can sign for surfing lessons for novices, receive useful information about the curents direction and the peculiarities of local waves.

When is the best time to go?

Puerto Rico is warm year-round, but from May to November, hurricanes often fly along the coast. One of them only a short time ago literally swept off the pier, which appeared before the camera the famous Despacito, and made it a history. Also during this period is characterized by the increased humidity and a lot of rainfall. The most favorable period is the time from December to April. Puerto Rico is recommended for a tourist holiday in these months.

Useful information

The carte-de-visite of Jobos is a natural rocky wall shooting up in the beach eastern part. Experienced surfers are in search of adrenaline buzz and jump from it into a suitable wave, and lovers of natural beauty and sea views can admire the stunning views. The famous Poso del Jacinto (the well of Jacinto) is located in the same place; the luckless shepherd Jacinto fell there after chasing a sheep that broke herd. The animal fell into the rocky hole and dragged a young man who was holding it by the rope. Take caution while staying y the well: sea water fountains appear from it from time to time, and wash the careless tourists over. Stones surrounding it are always wet and slippery, so be very attentive in order not to repeat jacinto's destiny.

Near Poso del Jacinto, a wooden path on piles starts which looks more like a bridge. It stretches along the entire bay, and is a kind of promenade so nice to walk on in the sunset. In the evening, the beach turns into a noisy young party – music and laughter are heard everywhere, vibrant dances are organized right on sand, and brand local Pina Colada flows like water in the bars.
