Qalansiyah beach

The beach is located in the extreme northwest of Socotra Island and overlooks directly the Gulf of Aden. In clear weather, the coast of continental Yemen can even be seen from here. Though, at the same time experts claim, that in fact, tourists are looking not there, but towards the Somali horn. It is about 180 kilometers from here..

Beach description

The beach is represented by a wide long edge of snow-white sand, which stands out against the general background of the yellow-brown island. The beach from the northern part turns into a huge spit, that forms the Detwah lagoon. The lagoon is unique in that during the high tides and low tides there appears a something like a sea river in it, when the water goes along the deepest part of the bay into the sea or vice versa.

The sea near the beach is shallow, there are lots of corals and just rocks. In places of their clusters, the ocean seems somewhat darker. And because the general drawing of the coast resembles a picture, where an unknown artist tried to combine an incredible amount of hues of blue colour.

It is possible to get to the beach along the road RR01. The end point of the highway will be the beach itself with a small coastal area, consisting of rare cafes and bungalows.

When is it better to go?

To visit Yemen, the periods from April to May and from September to October are recommended, when neither heat, nor sandstorms, nor frost will bother you.
