Tofo beach
Tofo Beach, nestled in the southeast of Africa, graces a quaint village that shares its name in the Inhambane region – once the bustling capital of the Portuguese colony. This picturesque spot, set against the backdrop of the Indian Ocean, is now home to the area's largest ocean port, a hub of activity favored by fishing vessels.

Beach description
The coastline and the bottom consist of fine white sand. The slope of the bottom is gentle. The sea is calm in the morning, while high, long waves rise in the afternoon, perfect for experienced surfers; however, swimming can be difficult.
Tofo - one of the most popular resorts in Mozambique and a favorite among divers - Manta Reef is home to whale sharks, mantas, humpback whales, dolphins, exotic fish, marlins, and barracudas. The coast boasts numerous diving centers. For onshore entertainment, ATVs are popular and available for rent. With this transport, you can easily explore the beach, visit the surroundings, and immerse yourself in African culture. The city is also rich in local sights.
The beach is a magnet for youth and backpackers from around the globe. The infrastructure is more developed than at other coastal beaches, featuring a plethora of restaurants, nightclubs, cafes, bars, and rental centers with equipment for kayaking, surfing, snorkeling, and diving. Instructors are also on hand to teach these water sports. The most popular fare in Tofo includes dishes made from fresh seafood, which are available at budget-friendly prices. The beach is just a 25-minute drive from the local airport, accessible by car or bus. Several hotels and bungalows dot the coastline.
When is the Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Mozambique for a beach vacation is during the country's dry season, which spans from May to November. This period offers ideal conditions for sunbathing, swimming, and water sports.
- May to November: These months are characterized by warm, dry weather, making it the perfect time for beach activities. The humidity is lower, and there is less rainfall, ensuring more sunny days.
- June to August: This is the coolest time of the year, with daytime temperatures averaging around 25°C (77°F). It's comfortable for those who prefer milder weather.
- September to November: As the spring season approaches, temperatures gradually increase, but the heat is not oppressive. This is also the best time for diving and snorkeling, as the ocean visibility is at its peak.
While the dry season is the most popular time for beachgoers, it's important to book accommodations in advance due to the higher number of tourists. Avoid the wet season from December to April, as heavy rains and potential cyclones can disrupt travel plans and beach activities.
