Tamarindo beach

Sandy beach and sea bottom. The entrance to the water is gentle. There are no sharp rocks and corals on the bottom. Morning to afternoon there is a wide shoal during the low tide, a great opportunity to go swimming with small children.

Tamarindo is a very popular beach, it's significantly more crowded from December to April, dry season period. There are lots of young people keen on windsurfing.

Tamarindo resort has great infrastructure. There are lots of hotels of different levels, apartments and hostels. Going to Tamarindo in winter, it is advisable to book rooms in advance, because in high season there may not be places. Resort has restaurants with an exquisite cuisine, cafes, bars, nightclubs, parties. There are also surfing schools that attract many people wishing to learn how to surf. Furthermore, you can rent diving, surfing or snorkeling equipment in many places.

Tamarindo attracts many people interested in eco tourism. Trips to the jungle, crossing the gorges, scuba diving, horse riding are vastly popular here. Playa Grande beach preserve is located closely to Tamarindo. It is a nesting place for leatherback turtles.

Resort is situated 196 km away from San Jose. You can get to Tamarindo by local airlines, bus, taxi or a rented car. Highway trip takes at least 7 hours. The best option is to book a hotel with transfer.

When is it better to go

The peak  season in Costa Rica begins in December and lasts until April. This period is characterized by clear, sunny weather without precipitation and a massive influx of tourists. Air temperature – above +30°C, water – not below +25°C. From June to October, the rainy season prevails, when the country is flooded with heavy tropical downpours with churly blasts. It is possible to go on a trip in November and May, when the rains are not torrential and fall rarely. At this time, the cost of tours is reduced.
